This picture book is written and illustrated by Eleanor Frances Lattimore, author of Little Pear and many other popular children's books. The illustrations are colorfully done with paper cutouts. The story is about a little girl in long-ago China who liked to wear her best pink shoes every day. Her father called her Miss Pink Shoes, and soon everybody called her that. Pink Shoes had a little brother and she helps her mother take care of him. But she grows tired of staying at home and watching him all day. She wants to go to the Fair. Her father promises take her, and then he forgets. Finally Pink Shoes goes to the Fair with her older cousin Ping. The story tells of the things she sees at the Fair including a man who does magic tricks and a terrible-looking dragon that frightens Pink Shoes so much that she turns around and runs home. The dragon is really a paper dragon, of course, and the story ends happily. Pink Shoes can be read aloud to a pre-schooler or read by advanced kindergartners or first-graders.
